Cowards – TV Sketch Comedy
Cowards – TV Sketch Comedy is a four man British Comedy act that is composed of Tim Key, Tom Basden, Llyod Woolf, and Stefan Golaszewski.
All of the participants studied at Cambridge University and have been involved with Footlights, which is a Cambridge University Dramatic Club, or an amateur theatrical club. Cowards was created in October of 2002 and they began performing their sketches live. They would perform a new hour of material every month. In 2005 and again in 2006 they had sell out tours at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and performed at the Pleasance.
They took over the BBC three website on January 25th, 2007 and built their own unique comedy world. Cowards would walk onto the screen and tell visitors to click through to the comedy area. The users then would be able to watch a range of sketches and animation. The material on the website was then used as a pilot for their television series. They had their very first radio broadcast in April of 2007 on the BBC Radio 4. Another broadcast was in the autumn of 2008. Since then both have been released out to a CD Audio book by BBC Worldwide. A three episode television series was filmed for BBC Four in early 3008 and then broadcasted in January of 2009. The television show was nominated for the Scottish BAFTA in the Best Entertainment category. They were named by Esquire Magazine on the list of 60 Brilliant Brits shaping 2009. It was a clever written act and well acted by its members. If you enjoy deadpan, slow moving sketches then the series will be perfect for you.
